To Benefit The Kids

» by Denny

I seem to be on a posting frenzy at the moment but I’m going to be gone for a couple of days and wanted to get these out there.

I received this in the mail and since the Marsh Fork Elementary School ranks right up there with top issues needing resolved I decided to share it with you.

Ed Wiley is an old friend I actually haven’t seen in a while - we fight the same battle just on different fronts. Ed is absolutely without a doubt one of the best people you could ever meet. He has a heart and right now he is fighting for something all of us with common sense truly believe in - the safety of the children. I ask you please show your support by email, phone call… anything. By the way - on the video page, Ed Wiley is in the video The Bears of Schumate Hollow.

Hey Guys,

This is Ed Wiley. Just touching base with everyone to let you know that I
am going back to New York for Earth Day, April 22, for the screening of
Michael O’Connell’s film, Mountaintop Removal, at the Lincoln Center,
6:30pm April 22, as part of their Green Screens series. Mike and I are
hosting the event and will have a chance to answer questions from the New
York audience afterwards.

I will be in New York from April 21 - April 29 working on several
presentations for that week.

The second major event is with a middle school that is connected with Ann
Porter Cox, who many of you remember…The school, WHEELS, is located in
Upper Manhattan and is the fourth highest rated middle school in the city.
The kids at this school have already begun to learn about MTR through
their teacher, Jane Doherty, who was a very close friend of Ann’s. I will
make a presentation to the kids on April 28 or April 29 at the school
auditorium.

Also, with our connections that I made in my last visit in September 2007,
we will be returning to the Today Show, on Earth Day, hopefully with a
large contingent of New YOrk supporters dressed in green. WE know
everyone cannot be there to support us, but this is what you can do…We’d
like everyone to start now, to email the Today Show, to let them know that
we are returning, and to encourage the Today Show to help save the lives
of the Marsh Fork Elementary kids by educating their audience about the
perils of mountaintop removal.

Email the Today show at this address:

Meredith Viera, one of the Today Show hosts, has blog, you can comment there:

We already have some donations from Coal River Mountain Watch (CRMW). It
may not be enough for the entire week. Any donations would be highly
appreciated and would be put to good use. Please send any donations to
arrive by April 17 to :

PO BOX 18
Rock Creek, WV 25174-0018

If you have any contacts in New York who might like to host a
presentation, please let me know. Antrim Caskey, the photojournalist from
NYC, will be helping me out with making appointments.
You can contact Antrim at 917 349 0422 or antrim@antrimcaskey.com

Thank you ALL very much for everything and anything you can do.

Ed Wiley

this is such an absurd and horrendous situation…. it should be an embarassment to all west virginians…. that our kids aren’t as important as profit. i called the governor’s office again last week to complain about this and let him know how disappointed i am in him and our government for allowing these kids to be in harm’s way and endangering their health.
