STOP Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining

Working to 'Write' a Wrong

When I went to check the clear cut mountain on my hike yesterday I expected to find a young mountaintop removal site. I was not prepared for the monstrosity I would encounter.

I wondered about the patch of pretty green grass amongst the madness. I wondered if it was designed to make the workers feel good about destroying everything else. This site actually goes far back to the left but because the sun was setting in that direction – my photos were no good. That’s ok though – I’ll be back.

Our remnants of wilderness will yield bigger values to the nation’s character and health than they will to its pocketbook, and to destroy them will be to admit that the latter are the only values that interest us. – Aldo Leopold

Thanks for commenting Marian. I didn’t know how to feel as I stood on a clear cut mountain and basically looking at something that can’t even be called mountaintop removal – mountain removal would be closer to the truth here – times 3.
