Kayford Mountain - Then and Now

» by Denny

The first photo was taken March 6 of this year.

The next photo was taken yesterday, June 10.

It doesn’t take long to move a mountain with mountaintop removal coal mining. All of the debris in the first photo missing from the second is now a part of one of the surrounding valley fills along with the rest of the missing mountain.

    Hi Denny

I drove up to Dorothy and Artie with the Dustbusters when we were filming “Rise Up! West Virginia.” I have some footage of the back side of this mess - I’ll see if I can pull some stills and/or video so folks can see the community that sits below the fill.

I’m sitting here this morning just scratching my head. Sitting in world that talks of nothing but presidential politics. And all the while - our land, homes and people are slipping through our fingers.

I need to hit the road to Bolt Mountain - let me know when you’re ready! It’s time to shake things up a bit!

I have a couple of long distance shots of one of the valley fills from this mess. I think it would be good to see some photos from the community.

I’m ready to shake it up to, just let me know.
