Has anybody noticed all the talk about going green on the TV lately? The Weather Channel is really promoting going green. I have even read where the White House Xmas tree is powered by solar. Wanna know what I think? I think they are all a bunch of damn hypocrites. Don’t talk to me about going green when I feel explosions from the mountains every single day. They are lighting a tree in Washington with solar power and powering the White House with dirty coal.
Tell me to have patience, it’s takes time for these things they say. Let me ask you – if you had an uncontrolled wildfire bearing down on your house, would you wait to see if somebody else was going to put it out or would you grab a water hose? My guess is that you would grab a water hose. I know I would. There is no difference, except that you cannot stop MTR with a water hose. If you could, this would be a very wet state.
I’m going to tell you what we need in this country – an energy revolution. We have been held back by the fossil fuel industry. We are working overtime, spending billions, trying to come up with innovative new ways to burn the same outdated dirty fuels. For example – I’m not real sure when the first gasoline engine was built, sometime in the late 1800’s I believe. From the beginning it was based on a simple fact, A+B=C (spark+fuel=boom). As far as the basics, they have not changed in over 100 years. The gasoline engine of today is exactly the same as the gasoline engine of the 1800’s except for an improved fuel and spark delivery system and no handcranking. I think we have had tunnel vision and can’t think outside of the A+B=C box. If the propulsion end of the automobile was given even one quarter of the attention that driver comfort is given – can you imagine what we would have today? I can’t.
We cannot let the fossil fuel industry, or any industry for that matter, continue to hold us back. We can do better.
For all of you green wannabes out there… either get on the bandwagon or get the hell off. There is no in-between. Don’t talk about going green in D.C. all the while condoning the largest environmental disaster to happen in our lifetimes, all within rock throwing distance of Washington – and that is mountaintop removal coal mining.
You wanna go green? You can start by stopping mountaintop removal coal mining.

Amen Denny. This very thing pisses me off on a daily basis. I can’t believe how everyone keeps saying it’s only a matter of time, meanwhile a mountain gets blown up, children are poisoned, the community of Prenter goes without water, entire area’s are flooded, pets are maliciously killed by hired coal thugs…and at the same time Massey gets richer.
This whole waiting game load of crap has been fed to us for so long, we aren’t able to stomach it any longer. Just the thought of it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, we’ve made leaps and bounds in the right direction with getting the word out and getting the grassroots movement off the ground, but the rubber has hit the road and we can’t stall any longer…our very lives depend on it.
It all boils down to, as my granddaddy used to say, “are you with us or agin’ us?” We need that Green Revolution and we need it now. Using the analogy you gave about A+B=C…all we need is the spark!
